Race report from Cutter:
It was my first official Rebel Runners event and somehow Shannon and I managed to leave there with the
fastest 5 mile time in the history of the DE marathon and about 5 new nicknames.
Here's the story Tuckin'.......
It all started when Shannon asked if I would be willing to fun half of her 5 mile loop. Of course I
said yes, but at the time I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Thursday night as I am eating
my cold Stromboli it occurs to me that we have not coordinated where we will swap the chip thingy.
So, through several conversations across the dinner table we have come up with what seems like a great
plan. I will bike to the turn around spot swap the chip thingy with Shannon and run the last half of
the 5 miles.
The plan was perfectly orchestrated in our heads. We asked Darlise where the turn around point was and
everyone felt comfortable about the plan of attack. The only problem was that I wasn't exactly sure
where I was supposed to be going, so Shannon takes off and I follow behind with words of encouragement.
I reach what I think is the turn around spot (at the end of the boardwalk right down the street from the
water stop). Shannon sees me and can't believe that it's time to exchange already. She's very impressed
with her 2.5 miles at 11 minutes. (I was too!)
We exchange very quickly and I follow the crowd heading back toward the finish. Before Shannon has a
chance to tell me that I am going the wrong way, I'm already out of sight.
Apparently I was supposed to go through the water stop and down along the river toward the ghetto and
then back around toward the finish. So, we ended up cutting out about 3 miles of the loop.
I felt great running toward the finish. I was cruisin' along like I was born to be a runner.
I reached the finish and searched for Misty, but there was no Misty! A few of the rebel women asked
me who my teammate was and found her sitting on the curb talking. Totally unprepared for our remarkable
5 mile time, she strips off her jacket and takes off!
I have to give it to her. She did really well for not knowing what the hell was going on.
I would like to apologize to my team for being a retard. I've never been very good at directions!
(I guess I should have metioned that) I'd like to thank Mike and Rob for putting in such great effort
for the team! You guys are awesome and hopefully you won't get stuck with me on your team next year.
Thanks to all the Rebels for the food, drink and good time. I had a blast!
